In its natural, most perfect state, the world exists as a series of balancing acts. It’s made up of opposing forces coming together in harmony – the masculine and the feminine, darkness and light, yin and yang, the ebb and flow of the tides. But with the chaos of modernity and the transformative nature of pregnancy, it can be more difficult to find balance within ourselves and maintain that balance out in the world.
Finding that balance is at the heart of what we do at Mamaison. We want women on the journey into motherhood to find that balance between strength and softness, power and grace. And we want to help them carry those ideas into their everyday lives.
Just as everyone has a unique fingerprint, we all have our own particular patterns of energy. These patterns bring together physical, emotional and mental characteristics in a special composition. When these things are in their natural balance, the body is healthy and in order; when things are in a state of imbalance, there is disorder. There is a constant flux of order and disorder within the body. The body is in its own rhythm of ebb and flow.
"Every woman has her own ever-changing balance of energy within, so we can benefit from following our own inner compass."
For some, juggling everything life throws at them is easy, but connecting to the feminine energy of compassion and being and allowing ourselves to unwind prove more difficult. Others revel in luxurious evenings spent at home, where self-care trumps all, but cannot tap into the masculine energy of achieving, action and competition as readily. Trying to find that ‘perfect’ balance of work and life, hormones or ways of eating can be elusive, even frustrating, especially during pregnancy. That’s why we encourage women to find the balance that suits them. Every woman has her own ever-changing balance of energy within, so we can benefit from following our own inner compass.
A movement practice, meditation and the introduction of mindfulness in everyday tasks are all beautiful ways to help find balance in life and during the journey into motherhood. They increase awareness of breath, awareness of the body and awareness of the soul, helping to find equilibrium. Sometimes it can also be helpful and relaxing to seek external guidance. Acupuncture and Ayurveda, for example, focus on creating harmony in the body. They can be incredibly useful tools in restoring balance in the physical and emotional body, particularly when pregnancy causes things to shift. When we know ourselves and how we function, we are better able to respect our personal compositions and find both peace and clarity; these practices help us do so.
When we’re pregnant, balance is more essential than ever. Our bodies gently guide us to slow down when we need to recharge and provide buoyant energy when it’s available. It’s about learning when to push and when to pull back, when to relax and rejuvenate with a Restore Class and when to tap into your power with a Signature Class. As long as we try to listen to what our bodies are telling us, we can strike the ideal balance for us.
